Today at A&W is. FreeRoot Beer Float day . Disabled American Veterans. I donated $5.00. I ordered one of usuals the cod basket. The French fries are nice and crispy not whimpy. The cod was tasty . The food here for fast food is excellent . It was quite until a bunch of juveniles came in. I'm not talking about high schoolers. These juveniles are in their early twenties and should know better. Very nice lady who's sitting next to them move to a different table. Your behavior is very disruptive. One of person in this group was blocked the aile with his chair. Plenty of tables where they could have sat. Management should have offered to move them to a larger table.

My dad and I used to drive 20 minutes to our "local" A&W in rural Oregon, and seeing the one off of Redwood Highway gave me all the feels. I miss my dad!
So I decided to check out San Rafael one and order a root beer float and a chili cheese dog like I used to do with my dad so many years ago and get my daughter a milkshake. Service was fast and friendly and the restaurant was clean. My daughter loved the cute bear mascot, so three stars there! But the food was bland, greasy, and soo gross! Why did I like this again? -

We came here for lunch after Golfing for free Root beer
Day! My hubby and I had a buy one get one free papa
Burger combo which included fries and a drink. What a
Steal at $10.08 total!!
I asked for crispy fries but The guy behind the counter told me they were crispy already. They were Not crispy.
The papa burger had 2 hamburger patties. It was huge but the bread was also soggy.
The free root beer float was excellent. I Don't even like root Beer and I drank it all! -

I saw this place passing the freeway and decided to stop by.
I got a cheeseburger with bacon, onion rings, and a root beer float because let's be honest that's really what I came for.
I ordered and my food was ready within minutes. I was pretty hungry so I dove right in. My cheeseburger was very oily so I only ate half of it. It tasted like a whopper from Burger King. My onion rings didn't taste like anything even dipped in ranch so I only ate a few of them.
My root beer float was served in a glass cup and it was so delicious. Though I had to steal some root beer from the bf as I had a lot of ice cream leftover. Truly this is what I came for and it did not disappoint. I thought about getting another for the road but decided not to do it.
I'll come back for the root beer float and pass on the food! -

I must admit - the A & W commercials that air on local cable are pretty persuasive. They REALLY make you want to come in for some good o' fashioned burgers, fries, and root beer floats. And everyone who works here does so with a friendly smile. It's almost like this place is a flashback to the 1950s.
So here's the reality... A&W is a perfectly decent drive-thru joint, that's better than most of the mega burger chains (I'm looking at you, McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, etc.). And yes, the service is quick and friendly (My drive-thru order/pick-up took less than 4 minutes). And the price for a burger, fries, and root beer only cost me $6 total.
The fries were perfectly crisp and salted. The root beer was totally refreshing. However, the burger was nothing to write home about. It certainly wasn't bursting with flavor and juices. In fact, it kind of annoyed me that the burger was lacking in condiments. So I literally had to pull my car over so that I could dissect my burger and dress it with ketchup and mustard. Kind of inconvenient, if you ask me. Call me old school, but I prefer when my burger joint gives me a complete burger with all the fixings, and my only job is to pay for it and eat it.
In any case, these are minor Marin County quibbles (aka 1st World problems). All in all, my A & W meal hit the spot for just 6 bucks. And if I was ever in the neighborhood and need my fast food fix, I would totally pull in to this restaurant over McDonald's any day of the week.
